Dipteryx odorata is native to Northern South America, a species of flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae. Its seeds are known as tonka beans, highly appreciated and widely used in perfumery.
 
Due to the high content of coumarin which is a flavouring substance, its scent reminiscent of vanilla, is sophisticated, finely layered of sweetness, warm and uplighting. 
 
The best way to smoke the beans is to grind them with a grater.
